Surf Lessons
Private surf lessons at Wainscott Beach draw on nearly four decades of teaching experience on the East End, backed by professional ocean lifeguarding, Ironman racing, and competitive swimming in the open ocean. The focus is not just on standing up on a board, but on becoming truly comfortable and “drown‑proofed” in different ocean conditions, from gentle rollers to powerful rip currents.
-
Each lesson runs about 75 minutes, with roughly 15 minutes on the beach for safety, equipment, and technique, followed by about an hour of in‑water coaching. Surfers learn how to read waves, spot and safely navigate rip currents, understand surfing etiquette, and ride in a way that protects both themselves and the people around them.
-
Private lessons can be one‑on‑one or a small group: the base rate is 225 dollars for the first surfer, with 75 dollars for each additional surfer to cover their board and wetsuit.
For larger groups and younger kids, extra instructors are recommended, including “catchers” in the inside whitewater zone for children around eight and under, and kids can start learning as early as ages three to four when they are ready and excited to get in the water.
-
From first‑timers to intermediate and advanced surfers looking to push to the next level, every session emphasizes clear coaching, proper technique, and serious ocean safety, so that students leave not only riding waves, but confidently and respectfully handling themselves in the lineup.

“I can’t say enough good things about MBX! I first went to the camp when I was just 8 years old, and it completely changed my life. Not only did I learn how to surf there, but I also met some of my closest, lifelong friends in the process. A massive shoutout to the director, Lars you can truly tell he loves what he does, and his passion trickles down into every single aspect of the camp. If you want a place with a great community, incredible coaching, and an unforgettable experience, MBX is the absolute best. 10/10 highly recommend!”
