    • SURF LESSONS

At Main Beach you’ll find the most experienced teachers, local knowledge, a focus on safety and skills and an all around great surf program. We’ve been giving surf lessons on the East End of Long Island for over 35 years. No one knows the surf spots in the Hamptons better than we do. We know where the waves are breaking and we know how to teach you to catch them!

Lessons are 1 hour, do not require any prior experience, and include ocean safety instruction.

For young children ages 3-10 it is recommended that we use two instructors for safety reasons . It is crucial at that  young age we have a catcher on the inside of the waves to catch your child before the waves breaks on the shore. This requires 2 instructors.

    • STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING LESSONS

The view is infinitely better from a Stand Up Paddle Board. Regardless of your experience level, MBX can get you Standing Up! Our experienced instructors have taught more people to stand up paddle than any other outfit on the East End. No matter your age or level of experience we can help you paddle the beautiful estuaries in the Hamptons or master the big Montauk waves.

    • KAYAK LESSONS

Our Story

MBX is the living legacy of the Hamptons’ legendary surf shop, Main Beach Surf and Sport, founded by Lars Svanberg in 1987. For generations, Main Beach Surf was a vibrant community hub for surfers, now that spirit continues today out on the water with Lars and the MBX team.

Lars, a lifelong waterman from Long Island, has been surfing since childhood and is inspiring the next generation with reverence and care for the ocean.

Joining the MBX family through our camps or lessons connects you to a lineage of legendary surfers and ocean lovers.

“The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”
— Jacques-Yves Cousteau

  • I can’t say enough good things about MBX! I first went to the camp when I was just 8 years old, and it completely changed my life. Not only did I learn how to surf there, but I also met some of my closest, lifelong friends in the process. A massive shoutout to the director, Lars you can truly tell he loves what he does, and his passion trickles down into every single aspect of the camp. If you want a place with a great community, incredible coaching, and an unforgettable experience, MBX is the absolute best. 10/10 highly recommend!

  • I have been very impressed w MBX surf camp for the past several years. The Director, Lars has so much experience that he brings to the camp. I believe the camp and Lars have been serving the community since the mid 1980’s. The other highly skilled surf counselors really know the waters and safety concerns, while bringing fun and thrills to each student. Thank you MBX !

  • My boys have been doing camp with Lars every summer for a number of years when we come to town from Colorado to visit grandma. The camp is so ideal. They have so many experienced surfers to help the kids. It’s a very relaxed vibe and they adore Lars. I’m so grateful for all they’ve learned about the ocean and how to stay safe and enjoy it.

  • Lars and company do an outstanding job of providing a safe, fun, and effective learning environment. Lars has a clear passion and expertise that can only be gained through decades of experience. This is a truly exceptional experience that sould not be missed. I give MBX the highest recommendation.

  • I have seen this camp in action for many years now. The kids have a great time, learn to surf, and make new friends. With great teachers and all the safety precautions you’d want your kids to have! Oldest and best surf camp on the East End!

  • This is definitely the best surf camp out on the East End. Tremendous personal attention and care, and a staff that really knows their business. Can't recommend them highly enough!

  • My kids still talk about this camp. The only bad day they had was when it ended so obviously we sent them back again :-) Beyond surfing education, the team really fostered connection between the kids and taught them to support each other. Can't recommend this enough.
